Primal Slippers: Paving the Way for Sustainable Hotel Amenities at Hotel Jakarta

As we approach the debut of our highly anticipated Primal Slippers at the #1 Greenest Hotel in The Netherlands, Hotel Jakarta by WestCord, we are filled with excitement about the growth of our impact and the future ahead.

Starting on March 11th, we will be attending the Independent Hotel Show in Amsterdam for the second consecutive year. Last year, we were honored to win the Most Innovative Product of the Year Award for introducing the world’s first fully circular hotel slippers. Now, one year later, we are incredibly proud to announce that Primal Slippers will be making history again. We’re thrilled to be the first hotel to replace single-use plastic hotel slippers entirely with our fully circular, eco-friendly slippers. This groundbreaking initiative is made possible in collaboration with our distribution partner, Hunter Amenities, and our cork and recycling partner, Amorim Cork Solutions in Portugal.

What makes Primal Slippers so special? These slippers are not just any hotel amenity; they are B Corp Certified, Carbon Negative, and endlessly recyclable. Hotel Jakarta has embraced them for their seamless integration into their existing operations, as well as their natural look and feel. By using Primal Slippers, Hotel Jakarta is further cementing its position as a leader in sustainable hospitality.

Single-use plastic hotel slippers are responsible for a significant portion of CO₂ emissions in the hospitality industry. In fact, they account for at least 47% of all consumable amenities, and sadly, billions of these slippers end up in landfills and our oceans each year. In contrast, Primal Slippers are nature-positive—crafted with sustainability at the forefront. These slippers are the only solution that is actively reversing the environmental damage caused by their single-use plastic counterparts.

Unlike some other slipper producers who attempt to mitigate their negative environmental impact by using materials like organic cotton, Primal Soles is committed to creating a net-positive impact for the largest room amenities challenge: single-use hotel slippers. We’re not just about reducing harm; we’re about actively improving the planet’s health.

As we continue to grow, we urge the European Commission, particularly Dr. Florika Fink-Hooijer and her team, to add single-use plastic hotel slippers to the official EU ban on single-use plastics. By doing so, we can further push for positive change across the hospitality industry and contribute to a more sustainable future, one step at a time.

If you’re interested in learning more about our mission and the journey behind Primal Slippers, be sure to watch our documentary on The Waterbear Network. In it, two brothers share their passion for bridging the gap between business and doing good for the planet.

Together, we can create lasting change. Let’s take that first step.
